The Magic 8 Ball, online and free
Some decisions deserve a spreadsheet. Most don't. This one is for the rest of them — the small, silly, unanswerable questions that you have already turned over far too many times. Ask it out loud or in your head, touch the ball, and take whatever comes back.
It works exactly like the plastic one you shook as a kid: think of a yes-or-no question, give it a shake, and read the answer that floats up in the little blue triangle. There are 27 possible replies — some are a firm yes, some are a flat no, and a few will politely refuse to commit. Nothing to download, nothing to sign up for, and it works on your phone, tablet or desktop.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Magic 8 Ball work?
Think of a question that can be answered yes or no, then touch the ball. It shakes, settles, and one of 27 answers fades into the triangle window. Each shake picks an answer at random, so asking twice can give you two different replies.
Is the Magic 8 Ball accurate?
Not even slightly. It is a random answer generator wearing a very confident expression. What it is genuinely good at is breaking a deadlock: most people discover how they actually feel in the half-second between reading the answer and deciding whether they like it.
How many answers does it have?
Twenty-seven. Fourteen lean positive, six sit firmly on the fence, and seven lean negative — weighted so the odds feel like the original toy rather than a coin flip.
Do I need an app or an account?
No. It runs entirely in your browser, free, with no sign-up, no download and no ads. Add it to your home screen if you want it a tap away.
What should I ask the Magic 8 Ball?
Anything you would rather not decide yourself. Whether to text them back, whether the pizza arrives before you turn feral, whether your cat respects you. The “People asked…” box above pulls from 99 real questions if you need somewhere to start.
